Adding Magic To Your Photos in Post-processing
Taking your photos is only the first step when it comes to delivering a beautiful gallery to you. Much of the magic happens in the editing process. While you can’t make a bad photo into a good photo with editing, you can take an already good photo and transform it into something even more special.
Below I have outlined what my photo editing process looks like.
Maintaining accuracy: My goal is not to change the photo, only to enhance it. I like colours to remain true to life and I don’t make massive alterations in photoshop.
Colour Correction: This involves adjusting lighting, contrast to create a vibrant and lifelike image.
Cropping and Composition: Composition is key to photography. I always aim to compose the photos properly when taking the photo, but sometimes there are minor adjustments to make, like ensuring the photo is exactly level, or some cropping.
Removing Distractions: This is the only time I use photoshop in my images. Sometimes there are distractions in photos that we can’t get rid of at the time, but can easily do so later in photoshop - this could be rubbish on the ground, or a person walking past. By removing these distractions, we can keep the focus of the photo on you and your family.
Artistic Effects: I love black and white photos. Removing the colour from a photo often removes distractions and focuses instead on the emotion being captured.
Consistency Across Images: Sometimes this can be one of the most difficult parts of editing. When working with lighting conditions than are always changing, or different locations, we still want the photos to look consistent. A lot of time goes into ensuring a seamless look throughout your gallery.
Because of all the work that goes in to your photos after they’ve been taken, I advise that the delivery of your gallery will probably be a few weeks after your session.
